BUSINESS CARD

A business card is a 3.5 x 2 inches size printed graphic that contains information about the person. It tells where a person works, the job title, often sales people, and the contact details like office address, phone number and website. Over the years, not much has changed on the format of business cards because it is often used in the corporate setting, especially the sales person since they are the one facing the customers. Why would a network administrator or technical support need it if they are in the back office talking to their colleagues sitting next to them.
When I was in IT, lots of vendors come to present their products and services even if they don’t really know how it works. They bring snacks like sandwiches and coffee from Starbucks. Once they handed us the snacks and set up their presentation, they will handover to us the business cards. It looks strange but most of the vendors act the same.
Another practical use of business cards are during events. Other than the attendees exchanging business cards, they can be used for raffles. One time there is a tech event. My supervisor and I attended the Huawei raffle. I don’t have a business card so my supervisor gave me one of his business cards and I just wrote my information. The funny thing that happened is that during the raffle, I won a Huawei phone. What a stroke of luck.
There are also some bars and restaurants that leave a fishbowl on their counter and let customers drop their business cards. As to how it works, I’m not sure but the store owner can gather data from the business cards and put them on the email list.
